Ravindra Jadeja scored 89 runs, adding 203 with Shubman Gill for the sixth wicket.
On day two of the second test at Edgbaston against England, India‘s experienced all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja violated the most recent Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) guidelines. Since he arrived on his own without using the team bus, he got to the ground much too early before the start of the day’s play.
India missed their first ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 final participation following their significant loss in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25. Since then rule stipulates that players would move together on the team bus, the BCCI established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) that prohibit any player from moving to or from the ground on their own.
Meanwhile, Jadeja had joined Shubman Gill when India were 211/5 and staring at another collapse. However, Jadeja anchored one end as the skipper pummeled the England bowlers at the other. Jadeja added 203 runs for the sixth wicket before getting out for 89 runs.
Ravindra Jadeja reaches Edgbaston ground on his own for practice breaking BCCI guidelines

On the second day of the second test match against England in Birmingham, Ravindra Jadeja disregarded the recently implemented BCCI SoPs. Following the Australia tour, the BCCI ruled that all players would travel together on the team bus and that no player would go to or from the ground alone.
However, don’t anticipate any penalties. To hit a few extra balls before continuing his innings, Jadeja disregarded the rules of the game by arriving early.
“Somewhere I felt that I should go and bat extra because the ball was still new. I felt that if I could see the new ball off, it would become easy for the rest of the innings. Luckily, I could bat till lunch, and then Washy [Washington Sundar] also batted well with Shubman. The more you bat in England, the better it is because you never feel you are set in England. At any time, a ball can swing and take your edge or bowl you,” Jadeja told reporters.
Jadeja had a chance to unfurl his sword celebration when reaching fifty, but got a rare snorter from Josh Tongue to be dismissed on 89.
“When you contribute with the bat for the team, it feels great. When you are playing outside India, and the team needs you more, it feels good. From 210 for 5, to put together a big partnership to take the team forward, it is a challenge. I took it as a challenge. If you can stick around with the captain and put together a big partnership, it gives you confidence as a cricketer and a batter that in the coming matches also you can also contribute,” Jadeja stated.
India posted 587 runs in the first innings thanks to 269 from captain Shubman Gill and contributions by Jadeja (89), Jaiswal (87), and Sundar (42).
