Ravindra Jadeja was Player of the Match in the first IND vs WI test.
All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja admitted that he missed Ravi Ashwin during the first test between Indian Cricket Team and West Indies Cricket Team at the Narendra Modi International Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad. Jadeja also revealed that he sometimes felt that Ashwin would come and bowl but immediately realised that he was not there.
Ashwin announced his retirement from international cricket in December 2024. The opening test against the West Indies was the first test match in India after Ashwin’s retirement. Both Ashwin and Jadeja formed a deadly spin duo for India and were the main reason behind the dominance of the side at home. They played many tests together and ran through the opposition’s batting lineup.
In Ashwin’s absence, Jadeja grabbed the limelight in the encounter, winning Player of the Match award. He smacked an unbeaten century in the first innings and later returned with a four-wicket haul in the second innings.
Obviously, we do miss Ravi Ashwin: Ravindra Jadeja

During the post-match press conference, Jadeja said that the team misses Ravi Ashwin, who was a match-winner. He also said that he sometimes forgot that Ashwin was not part of the match.
“Obviously we do miss him. Ash has contributed so much to Indian cricket, been a match-winner for so many years. I was playing a [Test] match in India without Ash for the first time, so sometimes I did find myself thinking, yeah, Ash will come on and bowl, and then realising he isn’t there,” he said.
“But Kuldeep and Washy have already played so many matches, and we can’t call them youngsters, but it was a different combination. In the future you will ask, Jaddu isn’t here, and someone else will be there. This is inevitable, and it will keep happening, but it feels good to contribute to the team,” Jadeja added.
Meanwhile, India defeated West Indies by an innings and 140 runs in the first test to gain a 1-0 lead in the two-match series. The second test will commence on October 10 at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
