BCCI starts search for Ajit Agarkar’s replacement.

The BCCI has also seen a major change in its selection committee. Ajit Agarkar’s tenure as the chairman of the senior men’s selection committee ended on October 4. He took charge in 2023 and decided not to seek a tenure extension.

Agarkar was part of a successful period for India. During his tenure, the team won the 2024 T20 World Cup, the 2025 Champions Trophy and the 2026 T20 World Cup. He played a pivotal role in bringing young players into the T20I team.

With his exit, the BCCI has now started the process of finding his replacement. The BCCI has now invited applications for the vacant position. Former India spinner Pragyan Ojha is currently the interim chairman, while Shiv Sundar Das, Ajay Ratra and RP Singh are the other committee members.

Recently, the BCCI invited applications for the vacant selector post on X. Ravindra Jadeja, who is not very active on this platform, replied with a laughing emoji and asked, “What is the procedure?”

During Agarkar’s tenure as chief selector, Jadeja was left out of India’s ODI squads for the 2024 Sri Lanka series and the 2025 Australia series. However, Agarkar said that Jadeja remains an important part of India’s ODI plans.

Jadeja had also spoken about his selection during that period.

“(Selection) isn’t in my hands. I want to play, for sure. (At the) end of the day, team management, selectors, coach and captain have their thoughts and they will have their reasons for not selecting me for this series,” he had said.

Earlier on Wednesday, India head coach Gautam Gambhir also praised Agarkar following his exit. Gambhir said that “history would be kinder” to the outgoing chairman and credited his belief in putting the team first for India’s success during his tenure.

“Dear Ajit Bhai, an absolute honour to work with you. Those 3 ICC trophies are testimony of your conviction: Team first & Team ahead, always.. I must say, History will be kinder to you. Thank you for everything. My heartfelt wishes for your future endeavours!!” Gambhir wrote on social media.

The BCCI is now looking for a successor to Agarkar; the new chairman will play a pivotal role in shaping decisions related to the Indian team in the coming years. The appointment will also come at a crucial stage as India prepare for the ODI World Cup 2027
