CSK are set to welcome Sanju Samson and part ways with Ravindra Jadeja ahead of IPL 2026 auction.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) have almost finalised the Ravindra Jadeja and Sanju Samson’s trade deal ahead of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 auction, according to reports by Cricbuzz. The franchises are awaiting the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) approval, which will complete the process.

As per the deal, CSK will swap Jadeja and Sam Curran with Samson from RR. This came after RR earlier demanded Dewald Brewis and then Matheesha Pathirana from CSK, but when those names were rejected and both sides settled with Curran alongside Jadeja.

Jadeja is one of the poster boys of the CSK franchise, representing the team for the first time from 2012 to 2015. He played for now-defunct Gujarat Lions from 2016 to 2017, when CSK was banned from the tournament. He was later back in CSK camp in the 2018 edition and since then, he has been retained by the Men in Yellow over the years. Hence, his ouster will be a big blow for team.

On the other hand, Samson has represented Royals since IPL 2013, barring two seasons when RR were banned, and was also named as captain ahead of IPL 2021. However, the right-handed batter seeks a fresh journey in the tournament ahead of IPL 2026 and expressed his wish to part ways with RR ahead of IPL 2026.

Both franchises have taken consents from Ravindra Jadeja, Sanju Samson, and Sam Curran- Reports

Both Jadeja and Samson are Rs. 18 crore retentions. Curran was bought by CSK for Rs. 2.4 crore at the last mega auction. The reports suggest that both franchises have obtained consent from all three players. The proposed trade has reached the Expression of Interest (EOI) stage.

As per the trade rules, a franchise keen to initiate a trade must submit an EOI to BCCI. The Governing body then communicates with the relevant team, which has 48 hours to respond. If the second franchise agrees to talk and the player’s consent letter is taken, the negotiations take place, where any increase or decrease in contract value is allowed. Once this chain is completed, a trade can be formalised.

Since this deal involves a foreign player too, a No Objection Certificate from the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) will be required before the move can be finalised. Till Monday evening, neither franchise informed BCCI or IPL officials about the deal.
