Ravindra Jadeja set to be appointed as Rajasthan Royals captain after IPL 2026 auction - Reports

RR traded in Ravindra Jadeja from CSK ahead of IPL 2026.

Rajasthan Royals (RR) are all set to have a new captain for Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 and it will be none other than Ravindra Jadeja. As per the reports in The Times of India, it is learned that the all-rounder will be announced as the captain in January after the auction, which will take place in December. 

Ravindra Jadeja, who was the backbone of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the IPL, was shown the exit door in a trade deal with the RR. He went back to the franchise with which he started his career as his swap with Sanju Samson was made public on November 15. 

Ravindra Jadeja, however, faced a pay cut as well as he joined RR at INR 14 crores, which is four crores less than what his salary was at CSK. But, that might just hand him the captaincy as the RR eye their second title after winning the first one in 2008, where Jadeja was part of the squad.

The reports claimed that Ravindra Jadeja is likely to get a nod ahead of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Dhruv Jurel and Riyan Parag in the RR’s captaincy race. “Jadeja will be given the reins. The announcement will be made in Jan,” said a source close to the developments. 

This won’t be the first time that Ravindra Jadeja will be captaining a team in the IPL. In 2022, he was handed the leadership of CSK but that didn’t go well with him as his performances dipped and also team struggled to get going. After his failure, MS Dhoni returned to lead the side.

Alongside Ravindra Jadeja, CSK also traded Sam Curran as part of the trade. Moreover, RR also swapped Nitish Rana to Delhi Capitals (DC) for South African all-rounder Donovan Ferreira. And now their focus will be to build a strong team at IPL 2026 auction. 

With Kumar Sangakkara also back at the helm of things, RR will be one of the favourites to win IPL 2026. It remains to be seen if the signing of Ravindra Jadeja brings the luck back for them or not.
