Virat Kohli has captained the RCB side in the last two matches as Faf du Plessis is dealing with an injury.

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), who had named Virat Kohli as their captain for their IPL 2023 game against Rajasthan Royals (RR) at Bengaluru on April 23, 2023, has been fined by the IPL for slow over-rate.

RCB had been asked to bat first after RR captain Sanju Samson won the toss and chose to bowl first. Trent Boult gave them the perfect start by dismissing Virat Kohli for a golden duck and then Shahbaz Ahmed also fell for 2 runs. But then Faf du Plessis, who was playing as an impact player due to injury, hammered 62 in 39 balls with 8 fours and 2 sixes.

He added 127 runs for the second wicket with Glenn Maxwell who demolished RR bowling with 77 in 44 balls with 6 fours and 4 sixes as RCB put on 189/9 in 20 overs.

Then RCB bowler Mohammed Siraj gave RR a taste of their own medicine by dismissing Jos Buttler for a duck. And then despite 47 from Yashasvi Jaiswal and 52 from Devdutt Padikkal, RR only managed 182/6 and lost the match by 7 runs.

Virat Kohli fined INR 24 lakhs for slow over rate offence

Virat Kohli has captained the RCB side in the last two matches as Faf du Plessis is dealing with an injury and is being used as an impact player, only batting for the RCB team. And now he was fined by the IPL management for slow-over rate offence.

Usually, the captain is fined 12 Lakhs for slow over-rate offence, but since this was RCB's second offence of the season, Virat Kohli is fined double - 24 Lakhs.

"Royal Challengers Bangalore, who had named Mr. Virat Kohli as their Captain for their game against Rajasthan Royals, has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during their TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) match against Rajasthan Royals at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on April 23, 2023," a statement from IPL read.

"As it was his team's second offence of the season under the IPL's Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Mr. Kohli was fined Rs. 24 lakh and each member of the Playing XI, including the impact substitute, was fined Rs. 6 lakh or 25 percent of the match fee, whichever is lesser,” it added.

RCB will clash with Kolkata Knight Riders in their second consecutive game at home in Bengaluru on Wednesday, April 26.
