RCB won IPL 2025 under the leadership of Rajat Patidar.
In what has been the latest development, Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) has been put up for sale. The owner of the franchise, United Spirits Limited (USL), a subsidiary of Diageo, has started the sale process of both IPL and Women’s Premier League (WPL) teams.
Diageo is confident that RCB will have a new owner by March 31, 2026. The current owners of the franchise made the revelation public in a conversation with the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) on Wednesday (November 5). USL, which is the Indian subsidiary of Diageo, said that they are initiating a strategic review of the investment.
The company said: “USL is initiating a strategic review of the investment in its wholly owned subsidiary, RCSPL. RCSPL’s business comprises ownership of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) franchise teams that participate in the men’s Indian Premier League (IPL) and Women’s Premier League (WPL) cricket tournaments hosted by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) annually.”
On putting RCB on sale, Praveen Someswar, Managing Director and CEO of USL, commented, “RCSPL has been a valuable and strategic asset for USL. However, it is non-core to our alcoholic beverage business. This step reinforces USL’s and Diageo’s commitment to continue reviewing their India enterprise portfolio to enable sustained delivery of long-term value to all stakeholders, while keeping RCSPL’s best interests in mind.”
Adani Group, the Jindals of the JSW Group show interest in buying RCB
As per the reports in Cricbuzz, it is learned that various parties have expressed their desire to buy the RCB franchise. They include the private investment company based in the US, the Adani Group, the Jindals of the JSW Group, Adar Poonawalla of the Serum Institute of India, and Delhi-based Ravi Jaipuria of the Devyani International Group.
The talks to RCB going to the sale have been in the news ever since the franchise became part of the controversy. After they won the IPL 2025 in Ahmedabad, they organised a victory parade in Bengaluru. The celebrations turned into tragedy as fans lost their lives and several others got injured in a stampede outside the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
The stakeholders have also put the company under pressure. This is because of their presence in a non-core portfolio, and it is well known that it has engaged a merchant bank to oversee the sale process.
