3 major reasons behind Rinku Singh's poor performances in IPL 2026

Rinku Singh is playing for Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2026.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are having a terrible time in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. Under the leadership of Ajinkya Rahane, the franchise are yet to register a single win and are sitting last on the points table with five losses under their belt from six games.

One of the major reason behind their poor performance has been Rinku Singh. The southpaw was retained by the franchise for INR 13 crore, and was also appointed as the vice-captain of the team ahead of IPL 2026. With added responsibility, it was expected that he would set the stage on fire.

However, Rinku has failed to make a mark in the tournament. Across five innings, he has scored just 79 runs at an average of 19.75 and a strike rate of 117.9.

He scored 33* and 35 in the first two games but got out for single digits in the previous three matches. On that note, below are three major reasons behind Rinku Singh’s poor performances in IPL 2026.

3. Change in his batting order

Rinku Singh is a specialist lower-order batsman. He is known for his ability to finish the innings. However, KKR have promoted him this season and utilised him in the middle-order in IPL 2026. Instead of doing the finisher’s job, he has been handed the responsibility to rotate strike and bat patiently in the middle-overs.

2. Poor shot selection

Rinku has not looked fluent with his shot selection in IPL 2026. He has mistimed majority of the shots, which has resulted in him losing wicket at crucial junctures. He has lacked confidence, which was visible in the five games he batted. Even after settling, he has struggled to score boundaries, which has been the major concern for KKR.

1. Pressure due to team’s poor form

KKR have continuously struggled with the bat in IPL 2026. Their openers have failed to provide strong starts. Even captain Ajinkya Rahane has struggled with his form, while Finn Allen, who was expected to be best batter for KKR, failed miserably. This has put pressure on the middle-order and Rinku has not found enough support from the other batters.

KKR would be hoping that they turn around the things quickly before it gets too late. For that, they need their batters, especially Rinku to come good and bail the team out of trouble.
