3 reasons why CSK are making mistake by not playing Prashant Veer

Prashant Veer has played two games in IPL 2026 so far.
All-rounder Prashant Veer made headlines at the IPL 2026 mini-auction last year after being picked by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for a whopping INR 14.20 crore. The spin all-rounder made his IPL debut in the clash against the Punjab Kings, scoring an unbeaten six runs in a losing cause.
The bowling all-rounder also gave a brilliant performance in his second game against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), scoring 43 runs in the 251-run chase. Although CSK lost the match, Veer’s crucial knock caught the attention of many fans.
Surprisingly, despite his brilliant batting performance against RCB, the Super Kings overlooked him in the recent matches. In search of a stronger team combination, the Ruturaj Gaikwad & Co. dropped Veer from the playing XI.
However, the 20-year-old deserves a place in the team and below are three reasons why Chennai Super Kings are making a mistake by not picking him.
Veer can solve CSK’s middle-order issues
CSK’s middle-order batters have consistently struggled to perform in IPL 2026 so far. For instance, opener Ruturaj Gaikwad scored an unbeaten half-century in the previous game, but middle-order batters completely failed to support him.
Similarly, opener Sanju Samson hammered a ton against the Mumbai Indians, but the rest of the batters could not even score a half-century. Prashant will be a valuable addition to the playing XI in such a scenario and can solve the Super Kings’ woes in the middle-order.
Prashant’s ability to handle pressure

In the match against RCB, Chennai were chasing a mammoth target of 251, but their batting faltered at the start. Their key batters lost their wickets cheaply. However, Veer handled the pressure well, and despite CSK’s disappointing start, he played a valuable innings of 43 runs batting at No. 7.
Although he could not drive Chennai to victory, his batting helped them cross the 200-plus mark and reduce the margin of defeat. Veer has proved he can bat well under pressure, which is a crucial need for CSK’s batting unit at the moment.
Can assist in both batting & bowling
Although the Men-in-Yellow utilised his batting skills in both games, he can also be fruitful with the ball. Veer bowls left-arm orthodox spin and will be an additional spinner if he is added to the playing XI.
If he features in the upcoming games, the Ruturaj Gaikwad-led side will have more depth in the spin department. Akeal Hosein and Noor Ahmed are two crucial spinners for CSK this season, and Veer can provide more variation to the team’s spin attack.
