3 reasons why India should give Suryansh Shedge chance in IND vs IRE T20Is

Suryansh Shedge has earned a national call-up in IND vs IRE T20Is.
Uncapped Indian player Suryansh Shedge has earned a national call-up for the upcoming T20I series against Ireland and England. The seam all-rounder has replaced injured Nitish Kumar Reddy in India’s T20I squad for the upcoming campaigns.
Reddy sustained a quadriceps injury in the 3rd ODI against Afghanistan. Due to the issue, the medical team of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) advised him to take rest and skip the upcoming Ireland and England tours.
The IND vs IRE T20I series will witness two games on June 26 and 28. Since India are a much stronger team than Ireland, several young players could get the opportunity to make their debut during the bilateral series between the two countries.
Shedge has never played any game for India but has the perfect opportunity to make his international debut in the Ireland series. On that note, below are the three reasons why India should give Suryansh a chance in the IND vs IRE T20Is.
Why should Suryansh Shedge make his international debut in IND vs IRE T20I?
3. Shedge’s impressive record in domestic T20s
The 23-year-old has represented teams like Mumbai, Punjab Kings (PBKS), and India A in the domestic circuit. So far, his record in 30 T20 matches has been outstanding, scoring 356 runs in 23 innings at an average of 25.42 and a strike rate of 178.89, including a fifty.
With his right-arm medium pace, he has captured 13 scalps in 18 innings at an average of 29.92. He made his debut for Punjab Kings in IPL 2025 and has played 12 matches across two seasons, scoring 165 runs.
Shedge has done a decent job in the shortest format at the domestic level and deserves a place in the national side.
2. Suryansh’s brilliant show in the Tri-Nation A Series in Sri Lanka

The seam all-rounder recently impressed with his performance for India A in the Tri-Nation A Series in Sri Lanka 2026. In the ODI tournament, he scored 147 runs in five games at an average of 36.75 with a fifty.
He rocked with the bat with a 72-run knock and an unbeaten 26 runs against Sri Lanka in the league stage. At an economy of 6.04, he clinched two wickets. India A won the tournament by defeating Sri Lanka A in the final, and Shedge earned a national call-up after earning accolades with his performances.
1. To develop Shedge as a strong all-rounder for the future
India have three premium seam all-rounders for T20Is at the moment: Shivam Dube, Hardik Pandya, and Nitish Kumar Reddy. If Suryansh is given opportunities in the IND vs IRE T20I series, he can later be developed into a key all-rounder in future.
The Mumbai player will also be useful if Hardik or Nitish are unavailable. At just 23 years old, he can become a strong backup all-rounder in the coming years and could be utilised when Hardik or Nitish suffer injuries or are rested due to workload management.
Providing him a chance in his maiden tour will also boost his confidence. Moreover, both Hardik and Nitish are set to miss the T20I series against England in July, and India might need Suryansh’s services. Testing Shedge against Ireland will help him prepare against a dominant side like England.
