Gujarat Titans (GT) restricted Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to only 155 runs in Ahmedabad.

The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have had a great season so far with 6 wins in 8 games, but in the recent game against Gujarat Titans (GT) in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, their batting line-up failed and it raised a few questions.

After winning the toss, GT asked RCB to bat first, and in the first two overs, the visitors started well, with Virat Kohli looking in very good touch. He hit 21 runs in an over off Kagiso Rabada. In the very next over, Jacob Bethell bagged a soft dismissal to Mohammed Siraj, and then Rabada, in his second over, got his revenge on Kohli by taking his wicket.

The team did try to form a partnership with Padikkal and Patidar, but once Patidar got out, the wickets kept falling, and the team later had to forcefully use the impact player option in the form of Venkatesh Iyer.

Overall, it was a very poor show of batting by the RCB batters on a very good Ahmedabad pitch, and this has raised a few questions about the first-innings batting of the team. On that note, let’s understand what the reasons are behind RCB’s poor batting in the game against GT.

3 reasons why RCB batting failed vs GT in IPL 2026

1. Fall of wickets in the powerplay

RCB had a good start to the game, with Virat Kohli looking in good touch, but the GT made a great comeback, with Siraj getting the scalp of Jacob Bethell in the 3rd over and then Rabada trapping Kohli with a bouncer. Two quick wickets in the powerplay put RCB on the back foot, and even though Devdutt Padikkal and Patidar tried to form a partnership, only a few overs later, the wicket of Patidar fell and RCB suffered a collapse.

2. Wrong shot selection and hasty batting

In the modern era of T20 cricket, when even a big score is being chased by teams, there are continuous discussions about the ideal score in the first innings, and teams try to post a big total. Even though the pitch suited batting, in order to gain more runs and aim to post a big total, RCB batters batted very hastily and had some wrong shot selections, which cost them their wickets.

3. Lack of big partnerships

One of the main reasons the batting suffered a collapse was that no one looked to form a partnership and keep the scoreboard ticking; the players, rather, in order to gain more quick runs, gave their wickets to the opposition and got out playing risky shots. There were no 50-run partnerships in their innings, and it was the reason for a big collapse.

What are the reasons behind RCB’s poor batting against GT?

Fall of wickets in the powerplay, Risky shots, hasty batting and no big partnerships were one of the reasons RCB batting failed against GT.

How many runs RCB scored against GT in the clash at Ahmedabad?
