Crushing giants like Sri Lanka and Australia with ease, Zimbabwe have stunned the entire cricket fraternity. Scripting two upsets just at the start, they have emerged as the biggest underdogs in this edition.
Notably, this is the second time Zimbabwe have qualified for the second round in a T20 World Cup. On that note, let’s discuss three reasons behind their impressive performance in the T20 World Cup 2026.
3. Sikandar Raza’s outstanding captaincy

Sikandar Raza’s captaincy has played a key role in the team’s success in the tournament. The all-rounder has picked the strongest set of playing XI in each game, and his decisions regarding batting order and bowling attack have helped the team to outplay the opposition.
Moreover, he has led the way with his own wonderful performances, scoring unbeaten scores in two out of three games. He has also bowled at a brilliant economy rate of 7.0 and scored runs at a stunning strike rate of 182.
2. Blessing Muzarabani & Brad Evans brilliant bowling

Pacers Blessing Muzarabani and Brad Evans have been an outstanding set of bowlers for Zimbabwe in the T20 World Cup 2026. While Muzarabani has clinched nine scalps at an economy of 5.91, Evans has picked eight wickets while leaking runs at 7.35.
They have led the pace attack and restricted opposition teams from reaching big totals. This has relieved pressure off the batters while scoring runs.
1. Powerful set of openers

Openers Brian Bennett and Tadiwanashe Marumani have done a marvellous job in the top order and helped the team to get quickfire starts.
For instance, they etched opening stands of over 60 runs against Australia and Sri Lanka, which set the platform for the team’s victory in the challenging games. While Bennett is the team’s leading run-scorer with 175 runs, Marumani has scored 90 runs at a high strike rate of 155.
