Sachin Tendulkar made 49 ODI centuries and 51 test centuries in his 24-year-long international cricket career.

The renowned Sachin Tendulkar hit his 100th international century with his bat on this day, 13 years ago. The Little Master, as he was affectionately known, climbed a mountain that is likely to be one of the few records that stands the test of time.

At the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur, India faced Bangladesh in the 2012 Asia Cup. After winning the toss, the Tigers requested that the team captained by MS Dhoni bat first. Tendulkar took his time, eventually reaching his 100th international century and 49th ODI in 138 balls.

Tendulkar accomplished a stunning feat in the latter stage of his career that was thought to be nearly impossible. He participated in the 2012 Asia Cup and scored his 100th century for his country. Interestingly, it was only his first century in ODIs against Bangladesh and his 49th ODI century overall.

More than just a personal achievement, Sachin Tendulkar’s 100th international ton was significant. Tendulkar’s unrelenting commitment to cricket was demonstrated by the historic hundred.

It took the Master Blaster more than a year to record his 100th century. During the 2011 World Cup, Tendulkar achieved his 99th century in Nagpur against South Africa.

When Sachin Tendulkar became the first batter to score 100 international centuries

Talking about the match where Sachin Tendulkar hit his 100th international hundred, Bangladesh won the toss and chose to bowl first to start the Asia Cup match. Gautam Gambhir and Sachin started India’s innings. He properly took advantage of Bangladesh’s bowling onslaught to eventually surpass a landmark that, until he approached it, very few people were aware of.

The Indian batsman was also relieved of the immense pressure he placed on himself during a year-long, frantic build-up by the landmark. He scored 80 runs in 102 deliveries by speeding past Bangladesh’s bowlers.

But before Tendulkar scored his 100th run off a delivery from Shakib Al Hasan, he needed another 36. Sachin Tendulkar took over late after the pressure was released, hitting consecutive boundaries off Shahadat Hossain before nicking a ball right into the keeper’s hands. He left as soon as Suresh Raina’s fast-paced innings was over.

He hit 12 boundaries and one six to score 114 runs in 147 deliveries. Even though it was Tendulkar’s 100th international century, it wasn’t one of his best. Tendulkar had his second-slowest innings of 100 or more in ODIs with his effort against Bangladesh. India ended up at 289/5, which limited their development.

The next match of the Indian team in the Asia Cup 2012, against Pakistan, proved to be the final ODI of the Indian legend. Sachin Tendulkar made 52 runs, and Virat Kohli’s 183 led India to a scintillating win, as India chased down 329 runs with 13 balls to spare.
