Team India chased down a record 406 runs in the second IND vs WI ODI in Guwahati.

The second ODI between India and West Indies, held at Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati, produced something exceptional for the cricket fans. Not one or two; this contest saw a total of five batters scoring a century.

West Indies had a great day with the bat, and they recorded their highest ODI total of 405/7 in the first innings. But they couldn’t celebrate it for long because within the few hours, it was chased down by India.

Shubman Gill scored his second ODI double century and scored an unbeaten 223 off 133 balls. He was equally supported by Rohit Sharma, who scored 101 off 75 balls. Earlier in the first innings, John Campbell (101), Shai Hope (104), and Amir Jangoo (114) scored centuries.

  • Gill recorded the fastest ever double century in ODI cricket off 117 balls. He broke the record of Ishan Kishan, who scored a double century off 126 balls against Bangladesh in 2022.
  • After Glenn Maxwell (201* vs AFG), Gill became only the second batter to score a double century in an ODI chase. He is the first Asian batter to do so.
  • Gill’s 223 is the highest individual score in an ODI chase, surpassing Maxwell’s 201*. It is also the highest score by a batter in a List A history, surpassing Soumya Sarkar’s 208*.
  • This was the 13th instance of a batter scoring an ODI double century. Gill has now recorded two ODI double centuries, and he is only the second batter after Rohit Sharma (3) to have multiple ODI 200s. He is also the only player to score an ODI double hundred in first and second innings, both.
  • Gill broke the record of Virender Sehwag (219) and recorded the highest ODI score by a captain. After Rohit’s iconic 264, Gill’s 223* is also the second-highest individual score in ODIs and third-highest overall.
  • This is also the highest individual score in the second game of an ODI series. The previous best was Rohit’s 208* against Sri Lanka. Gill is the only player in history to have a double hundred as captain in Tests and ODIs.
  • Gill has scored 333 runs in two innings in the ongoing series, which is the second-most by a batter in two consecutive innings, only after Martin Guptill’s 342-run tally (105 and 237*).
  • Gill completed 3500 runs in 68 innings and became the fastest to do so.

  • Rohit scored his century at 39 years and 153 days old and is the oldest Indian batter to score an ODI hundred.
  • Rohit completed 12000 ODI runs in his career and became only the seventh batter and the third Indian to do so. He did it in 282 innings and is the second-fastest after Virat (242).
  • During his century, Rohit hit six sixes and surpassed AB de Villiers (40) to have the most ODI sixes (42) against West Indies.
  • Rohit also completed 200 ODI sixes in India and became the only batter to hit ODI 200 sixes in a country.

India

  • Team India recorded the second-highest chase in ODI history. This is also the highest chase by an Asian team in the ODIs.
  • Rohit and Gill added a 255-run stand for the first wicket, which is now the second-highest opening stand for Team India after 258 runs between Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly in 2001.
  • Team India recorded 400 or more ninth time in the ODIs. They surpassed South Africa (8) to achieve this feat most times in the ODIs.
  • It was the first instance when five batters scored a century in an ODI game.
  • Team India have now won 14 consecutive ODI series against West Indies, which is the most by a team against an opponent.
  • India reached the 300-run mark in 29.1 overs, which is the fastest ever by a team in the ODIs.
