Virat Kohli played a stunning unbeaten knock of 139 runs off 88 deliveries against the West Indies in the opening game of their three-match ODI series at Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram. Returning to the venue after three years, the 37-year-old started from where he left. During his last game in Thiruvananthapuram, against Sri Lanka in 2023, Kohli scored 166, hitting 13 fours and 8 sixes.
The former Indian skipper displayed his batting prowess as soon as he stepped out of the dressing room to bat. Kohli teamed up well with Shubman Gill for a partnership, as the latter also scored a century in the opening ODI. However, the 37-year-old’s innings against the Caribbean team was particularly special, as he also set several records.
From his terrific century to nine maximums, everything created a story in Thiruvananthapuram as fans elated every time Virat Kohli came on the crease to bat. Kohli’s performance in the first ODI of the three-match series has proved that he’s still in shape to score runs and create records.
The 37-year-old silences his critics, as it currently seems he will be part of the Men in Blue’s line-up for next year’s ICC Cricket World Cup, set to be played on the African continent.
