Reigning Champions in the Major ICC Tournaments

India and Australia have dominated the last cycle of ICC Titles.

International Cricket Council (ICC) organizes several major tournaments throughout the year, across the U-19 and Senior categories.

This includes the U-19 Men’s and Women’s World Cups, U-19 T20 World Cups, the Men’s and Women’s Cricket World Cups, the Champions Trophy, the Men’s and Women’s T20 World Cups, and the World Test Championship cycle.

The last cycle of ICC Titles have been nothing short of excitement. There are newer teams emerging in the sport with the rise of Zimbabwe, Afghanistan and other associate nations. Even the recently concluded Women’s T20 World Cup saw the debut of Netherlands.

2026 saw the conclusion of three major ICC Tournaments, namely the Men’s and Women’s T20 World Cups, and the U-19 World Cup. Let us take a look at the defending champions of all the ICC tournaments.

Men’s ODI World Cup 2023 – Australia

The Men’s ODI World Cup 2023 was hosted by India. The Australia started off poorly in the tournament with consecutive losses against India and South Africa, but what followed this was an unbeaten campaign

Their match against Afghanistan is among one of the best run chases in ODI history, where Glenn Maxwell single-handedly chased down the 292-run target. He hit a double century and cleared Australia’s path for the semi-final.

In the Final, the Kangaroos outplayed the hosts and beat them by 6 wickets, winning their sixth World Cup title. Virat Kohli was the Player of the Tournament for his 765-run campaign.

Women’s U19 T20 World Cup 2025 – India

The Women’s U19 T20 World Cup 2025 was hosted by Malaysia. The Indian Women’s U19 team won the campaign remaining unbeaten throughout. They won all their matches convincingly and did not look nervy at any point.

India’s Trisha Gongadi amassed 309 runs in the tournament, being the highest run-scorer and the only player to score more than 200 runs. Meanwhile, Vaishnavi Sharma (17) and Aayushi Shukla (14) were the best bowlers in the tournament.

The UAE and Pakistan jointly hosted the Champions Trophy in 2025. India emerged as the only undefeated team in the tournament winning all the matches. Varun Chakravarthy and Mohammad Shami claimed 9 wickets each.

Meanwhile, Shreyas Iyer (243 runs) and Virat Kohli (218 runs) held India’s batting line-up together. In the Final, India beat New Zealand by 4 wickets with Rohit Sharma being adjudged as Player of the Match for his brilliant knock of 76.

World Test Championship Final 2025 – South Africa

South Africa ended their ICC title drought by winning the World Test Championship Final of the 2023-25 cycle. They defeated the Australia by 5 wickets, chasing down 282 runs in the last innings.

Aiden Markram was the Player of the Match for his scintillating century scoring 136 runs in a high pressure run-chase. The South Africa captain Temba Bavuma too registered a a half century. Moreover, Kagiso Rabada picked 9 wickets across two innings.

Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 – India

The Indian Women’s Cricket Team won their first ICC title by winning the ODI World Cup in 2025 on their home soil. Deepti Sharma was the Player of the Tournament for her all-round contributions, especially her 22 wickets in the tournament.

The Women in Blue had won only 3 games out of the 7 league games, but managed to make it to the semi-final. Facing the unbeaten Australia in the semis, India pulled off a historic run-chase, going after a mammoth 339-run target. India won the match by 5 wickets.

India defeated South Africa in the Final on November 2, winning by 52 runs. Shafali Verma was the Player of the Match for her 87 runs and 2 wickets in the Final.

Men’s U19 World Cup 2026 – India

The Men’s U19 World Cup 2026 was organised in Zimbabwe and Namibia. India’s U19 team remained undefeated till the Final and won all their games convincingly. Ayush Mhatre captained the side.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was the Player of the Tournament for scoring 439 runs at a strike rate of 170. He scored an exceptional 175 (80) in the Final. Meanwhile, Henil Patel and RS Ambrish both picked 11 wickets in the tournament. India won the Final against England by 100 runs.

Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 – India

The Men in Blue set many records by winning this tournament – becoming the only team to win a T20 World Cup at home, the only team to win three T20 World Cup titles, and the team to win consecutive titles.

Suryakumar Yadav-led India side were unbeaten in the Group stage, but lost one encounter against South Africa in the Super 8 stage. However, with the heroics of Jasprit Bumrah and Sanju Samson, India won the tournament, defeating New Zealand by 96 runs in the Final.

Sanju Samson was the Player of the Tournament for his 321-run campaign, while Jasprit Bumrah had picked 14 wickets in the series.

Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 – Australia

Australia Women won their seventh T20 World Cup title by winning the 2026 tournament. They did not lose any contest in the whole campaign, and won all the games dominantly. They had all the departments of the team well covered.

The skipper Sophie Molineux claimed 11 wickets in the tournament, while Beth Mooney scored 238 runs in 7 matches. Beth was also named the Player of the Tournament.

The Aussies won the tournament by defeating the hosts, England, at Lord’s by 7 wickets. They comfortably chased down 151-run target within 18 overs.
