India defeated Afghanistan in the third T20I match Bengaluru and won the series by 3-0.

The final T20I between India and Afghanistan at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru had drama till the very last ball. India defeated Afghanistan in the super over which was played twice in the game. Indian captain Rohit Sharma played magnificent knock in Bengaluru and smashed a record-breaking fifth T20I century.

Team India posted 212 runs on the board in 20 overs and Afghanistan also finished their innings at 212 runs. Then both the teams played two super overs to determine the result. Everyone was amazed to witness the super exciting game between the two sides. M. Chinnaswamy Stadium was at their feet during entire game as they were entertained by both sides.

What happened in Bengaluru?

Afghanistan had a terrific start of the game and rattled India’s top-order early in the powerplay. India lost four wickets in 4.3 overs. Yashasvi Jaiswal (4), Virat Kohli (0), Sanju Samson (0) and Shivam Dube (1) perished early India’s innings. Indian captain Rohit Sharma and middle-order batter Rinku Singh (69) added a massive 190 run stand for the fifth wicket.

India posted 212 on the board. Rohit Sharma scored 121 runs in 69 balls with 11 fours and eight sixes. This was Rohit’s fifthT20I ton, Rinku Singh smashed 69 runs in 39 balls with two fours and six sixes. Chasing 213, Afghanistan got off to a terrific start once again and their top-order scored brilliant fifties. Rahmanullah Gurbaz (50), captain Ibrahim Zadran (50) and Gulbadin Naib (55*) scored half-centuries.

All-rounder Gulbadin Naib’s along with Mohammad Nabi (34) took Afghanistan close to India’s total. Gulbadin Naib added 36 runs in final two overs along with Afghan tail and the game finished in a tie. Mukesh Kumar needed to defend 19 runs in the final over but he conceded 18 runs. After a tie, the game moved to Super Over.

Super Over 1

Afghanistan scored 16 runs while batting first in the super over. Mohammad Nabi and Rhmanullah Gurbaz scored a few boundaries. Team India came out with Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma. Captain Rohit Sharma smashed two sixes in the super over. Rohit went back to the dug out as he was retired hurt and Rinku Singh came in.

Left-hand opening batter Yashasvi needed two runs to win the game for India in the final delivery of the Super Over 1 but he failed to get a proper connection once again. Yashsvi Jaiswal and Rinku Singh ran a single but couldn’t convert it to a double and the first super over also ended in a tie.

Super Over 2

As India were chasing in the first super over, they were asked to bat first. India went ahead with Rinku Singh and Rohit Sharma’s combination and Sanju Samson was their third batter. Rohit started with a bang and scored 10 runs with a six and a four in the first two deliveries. Rohit ran a single in the third ball and Rinku was dismissed on fourth delivery.

On the fifth delivery Rohit was run out while running a bye. India finished with 11 runs. Captain Rohit Sharma trusted leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi for the job as Afghanistan went ahead with three right-hand batters. Risk paid off for India and Ravi Bishnoi dismissed Mohammad Nabi in first delivery and then got Gurbaz out in the third ball. India won the game in second super over.

A bit of controversy was also involved when Mohammad Nabi ran two extra runs after being hit by a throw from keeper Sanju Samson in the first super over. Indian captain Rohit Sharma objected after the incident but Nabi was convinced that he was not aware of the throw. Rohit Sharma came out to bat in the second super over after being retired hurt in the first super over.
