Dushmantha Chameera will miss the T20I series against India due to bronchitis and a respiratory infection.
Ahead of the home T20I series against India, Sri Lanka have been handed a huge blow in their bowling department as senior speedster Dushmantha Chameera has been ruled out of the upcoming three-match T20I series.
For the first time since 2021, India are on a tour of Sri Lanka for white-ball matches. They will play three T20Is, starting July 27, which will be followed by a three-match ODI series. The T20I series will be played in Pallekele and the ODI series in Colombo.
On Wednesday evening, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) confirmed that Chameera will miss the T20I series due to bronchitis and respiratory infection. The 32-year-old Chameera was recently part of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2024 season, bowling for Kandy Falcons, but didn’t feature in the second half of the tournament.
“Only yesterday did we get back the reports, and it can be confirmed that he will miss the T20Is and ODIs against India,” Sri Lanka’s chief selector Upul Tharanga was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.
Who has replaced Dushmantha Chameera in Sri Lanka’s T20I squad against India?
Sri Lanka have named right-arm seamer Asitha Fernando as Chameer’s replacement for the upcoming T20I series against Suryakumar Yadav’s team.
Fernando, aged 26, made his international debut in 2017 but never became a first-choice pacer. So far, he’s featured in only three T20Is, seven ODIs and 14 Test matches.
Fernando was part of the LPL-winning Jaffna Kings side. He took three wickets in the final against Galle Marvels.
