Joe Root scored his 36th test century against New Zealand in Wellington.

England continued their domination in New Zealand to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match test series. Modern-day great Joe Root starred for the visitors, smashing a century, while Jacob Bethell delivered a sensational 96-run knock in the second innings.

England’s bowling department was led by speedsters Gus Atkinson and Brydon Carse who combined to claim 11 wickets in the match.

New Zealand, on the other hand, have been lacklustre throughout the series. The hosts entered the series as favourites following their historic triumph against India, but the Kiwis have struggled to replicate that form on home soil. Tom Blundell was the lone bright spot for the Black Caps, scoring a resilient 115 in their second innings.

Meanwhile, Joe Root has continued his sublime form by smashing the 36th test hundred of his career. The English superstar has steadily established himself as one of the greatest test batters of all time.

One of the most remarkable moments of Root’s second-innings century came in the 83rd over. Batting on 98, Root reverse-ramped William O’Rourke’s good-length delivery over the keeper’s head for a boundary.

Root’s bold way of reaching the three-figure mark perfectly epitomizes the fearless mindset Brendon McCullum has instilled in the England side.

This defeat made a major dent in New Zealand’s hopes of reaching the ICC World Test Championship final. The Kiwis have now slipped to the sixth position, having six wins and seven defeats in 13 games.

England, meanwhile, remain upbeat in their Bazball methods.
