Ricky Ponting is excited to see five tests in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.
Legendary Australian cricketer Ricky Ponting has predicted the winners of the upcoming high-voltage Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 between Australia and India.
India’s recent success on the Australian soil, where they won two consecutive BGT series (2018-19 and 2020-21), has hyped the upcoming exciting series even more.
The Border-Gavaskar Trophy will be played from November 22 to January 7, 2025. For the first time since 1991-92, both nations will play a test series consisting of five matches.
3-1 to Australia: Ricky Ponting
The upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy will be very crucial for both nations in terms of claiming the top two spots in the ongoing ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 cycle. Currently, the Indian cricket team are at top of the points table, and Australian are placed second.
The upcoming series between the two nations could determine the table-toppers going forward in the ongoing WTC cycle.
Ahead of the Border Gavaskar Trophy, former Australian captain Ponting predicted that the hosts will clinch the five-match series 3-1 against the Indian cricket team.
The former Australian captain feels that the upcoming BGT series will be competitive, but the hosts will have a point to prove against India.
“It’s going to be a competitive series and as I said I think Australia’s got a bit of a point to prove against India in Australia on the back of what’s happened the last the last two series here,” Ponting said on the latest episode of The ICC Review.
Ponting further added that the return of five tests in the upcoming BGT series will also play an important role.
“We are back to five Tests as well, which is the other really important thing about this series. It’s only been four Tests the last couple of times. Five tests, I think everyone’s really excited by that and I don’t know if there’d be too many drawn games,” Former Australian captain added.
“I’m obviously going to tip Australia to win and I’m never going to tip against Australia. There will be a draw somewhere and there will be some bad weather somewhere, so I’m going to say 3-1 to Australia,” Ponting said.
India’s tour of Australia 2024-25 schedule:
November 22-26: 1st test, Perth Stadium, Perth (D)
December 6-10: 2nd test, Adelaide Oval, Adelaide (D/N)
December 14-18: 3rd test, The Gabba, Brisbane (D)
