"Was trying to do what I did in the IPL,": Rinku Singh after winning MoTM in 2nd T20I vs Ireland
Rinku Singh smashed 38 off 21 deliveries in the first innings he batted for India in international cricket to win MoTM award.
After a splendid effort from batters, India defeated Ireland by 33 runs to seal the three-match T20I series against Ireland. India have comprehensively won the second T20I after a magnificent all-round performance from the team. Young India batters made good use of the sunny and clear weather conditions as Ruturaj Gaikwad (58), Sanju Samson (40), Rinku Singh (38), and Shivam Dube (22) played magnificent innings to put India in a comfortable position.
India posted 185 runs on the board and gave Ireland 186 runs to chase. Apart from Andrew Balbirnie (72), no batter from the Irish camp could put up a challenge. Prasidh Krishna snatched the game away from Ireland in his first over only when he picked up Paul Stirling (0) and Lorcan Tucker (0) in just a span of 3 balls. From there, Indian bowlers had a tight grip on the game and didn’t let Ireland’s batters score freely. Ravi Bishnoi also contributed with two wickets.
Bumrah thinks tough to pick XI
Indian captain and also the leader of the pace attack, Jasprit Bumrah, bowled a superb final over to seal the game for India. Bumrah bowled a wicket maiden over in the 20th over to defend 37 runs in the final over. He picked up two wickets and conceded only 15 runs in his four-overs spell. Bumrah shared a good feeling after India’s victory and said, “I am feeling good, it was a little drier today. We thought it would get slower, so we batted first. It is very pleasing.”
Bumrah also highlighted that it is tough for him to pick an XI with numerous talents in the squad. He said, “It is tough to pick XI. It is a great headache to have. Everyone is eager and everyone is confident. All of us want to play for India. Eventually, everyone finds their way up. If you play with the baggage of expectations, you are under pressure. You have to set those expectations aside. You are not doing yourself 100% justice if you are playing with so many expectations.”
Paul Stirling thinks Ireland had a chance
Ireland skipper Paul Stirling had a poor day with the bat and was out on a duck against Prasidh Krishna. The Irish captain felt that his team had chances of winning the game, but they couldn’t take them. Paul Stirling said, “We had chances; we didn’t quite make it. We had positives from the entire 40 overs.” India smashed 42 runs in the last two overs, and that proved very costly for them. Stirling added, “I think we just let them get away in the last few overs. Their batters got going and were difficult to bowl to.” Rinku Singh smashed 22 runs in the last five legal deliveries he faced.
‘Was trying what I did in IPL’ says Rinku Singh
Rinku Singh was named Player of the Match for a swashbuckling knock. This was Rinku’s maiden T20I innings for India, and he impressed everyone with his innings of 38 runs that had 2 fours and 3 huge sixes. Rinku was happy after his performance and said, “I am feeling very good. I was trying to do what I have done in the IPL. I was confident and tried to stay calm. I listened to my captain; I am feeling very nice. I have been playing for 10 years; all my efforts have borne fruition; and I am happy to get the Player of the Match in my first game.”
