Rinku Singh-led Meerut Mavericks clashed with Kanpur Superstars in the opening game of UP T20 League 2025.
Uttar Pradesh Premier League 2025 commenced on August 17 with the opening game between Meerut Mavericks and Kanpur Superstars. The third edition of the tournament will witness a clash between six teams for the title. Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow is the venue for the tournament.
Rinku Singh, who is the skipper of Meerut Mavericks in UP T20 League 2025, is known for hitting big sixes. But he impressed many with his bowling skills during the opening game of the tournament against Kanpur Superstars.
Surprisingly, the occasional spinner came out to bowl the fourth over of the power play. He clinched a wicket on his very first ball, dismissing Adarsh Singh. After claiming the wicket, he roared in celebration with his teammates, showing shades of Virat Kohli.

Notably, the commentators were surprised to witness Rinku bowling in the power play overs. However, they were astonished after he provided a breakthrough on his very first delivery. Have a look at the video below.
Notably, Rinku did not get a chance to bat in the first innings. After being asked to bat first, Meerut Mavericks posted a mammoth total of 225/2 in the first innings. Opener Akshay Dubey gave a brilliant start to the batting with his 44-run knock.
Later, Rituraj Sharma (60) and Madhav Kaushik (95) hammered unbeaten knocks to power the team to a big total. Meerut restricted Kanpur Superstars to 139/9 in the second innings, winning the clash by 86 runs.
Kanpur faced a huge batting collapse during the chase, with only two batters scoring in double digits. For Meerut Mavericks, Vijay Kumar, Yash Garg, and Kartik Tyagi captured two wickets each, while Rinku Singh, Vishal Chaudhary, and Zeeshan Ansari picked one wicket each.
Meanwhile, the UP T20 League 2025 final will take place on September 6. Meerut Mavericks, Kanpur Superstars, Kashi Rudras, Gaur Gorakhpur Lions, Noida Kings, and Lucknow Falcons are six teams part of the tournament.
