Rinku Singh has travelled to the USA as a travelling reserve with India’s T20 World Cup 2024 squad.
Rinku Singh was a big name missing from India’s T20 World Cup 2024 squad. He is included as one of the four travelling reserves, but his absence from the 15-member squad caused a huge uproar among fans on social media.
Rinku has an excellent record in T20 Internationals and was a strong contender for a spot in the squad before the start of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. His franchise, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), won the title, but he didn’t get many opportunities to bat in the top order and make a stronger case to the national selectors.
The left-handed batsman scored 356 runs in 11 T20I innings at a stunning strike rate of 176.24.
Rinku Singh discussed his feelings after losing out on the T20 World Cup squad. He also disclosed India skipper Rohit Sharma’s message to him after the snub.
“Yes, anyone feels a little bad if he is not selected despite good performances. However, this time I could not get selected due to the team combination. It is okay, one should not think too much about things that are not in one’s hands. Yes, I was a little upset in the beginning. Whatever happened is fine. Whatever happens, happens for good,” Rinku told Dainik Jagran.
Rohit Bhaiya asked me to keep working hard: Rinku Singh
Rinku stated that Rohit encouraged him to keep working hard and not make too much of the snub because there would be another World Cup after two years. The batter praised Sharma’s backing of young players, adding that everyone is aware of Sharma’s exceptional leadership abilities.
“Rohit Bhaiya did not say anything special. He only said that just keep working hard. There is a World Cup again after two years. There is no need to worry too much. This is what he said to me. The whole world has seen how good his captaincy is. If I talk about myself personally, I have done only one tour with him so far. I have not even talked to him much. He supports the youth a lot. He only wants the youth to do well and he always says that play, do well,” Rinku Singh concluded.
The first two batches of the Indian squad have reached New York. India will play a warmup game on June 1 against Bangladesh before starting their T20 World Cup campaign on June 5 against Ireland.
