The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 will start on March 28 with the opening clash between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) will start their journey on April 1 with their first game against Delhi Capitals (DC).
Rishabh Pant is set to lead LSG in IPL 2026, where they will aim for a big comeback. Last year, they gave a dismal performance by finishing in the seventh spot in the points table. Out of 14 games, LSG won six matches and lost eight.
Moreover, Pant will face a big test after a poor season last year, during which he struggled to score runs. In 14 games, he scored 269 runs at an average of 24.45 and a strike rate of 133. He scored a century and a half-century but got out cheaply in other games.
Rishabh Pant to bat at No.3 in IPL 2026 for LSG

Following a dismal performance last year, Pant would be keen to make a strong comeback in IPL 2026. According to reports by PTI, he is also going to change his batting position. The left-handed batsman will bat at the one-down position. Notably, he usually bats in the middle-order, a position he has held since the start of his career.
Moreover, Pant also aims for a comeback in India’s T20I team. He featured in 10 games last year, with his last game in July 2024. Since then, he has been overlooked in the shortest format. He was also not considered for T20 World Cup 2026, where Suryakumar Yadav-led India won the title.
He has also been out of the ODI team for a long time, having last played in August 2024. He continues to be a crucial member in the test format, where he is the vice-captain.
Meanwhile, LSG have retained most of their players for IPL 2026. In the mini-auction conducted in December last year, they picked a few big names like Josh Inglis, Anrich Nortje, and Wanindu Hasaranga. The latter has been recovering from a hamstring injury and is expected to miss the tournament.
