Rishabh Pant slammed twin centuries in the ongoing Headingley test.
Reputed cricket commentator Sanjay Manjrekar feels that Rishabh Pant can break Rahul Dravid’s test record of most test centuries by an Indian batter in England during India’s tour of England 2025. His statement came after Pant slammed twin centuries in the ongoing first test between the India Cricket Team and the England Cricket Team at Headingley, Leeds.
The India vice-captain slammed a 134-run knock in the first innings and later followed it up with a 118-run knock in the second innings. With his dual centuries in the encounter, he became the first Indian batsman to slam test centuries in both innings of a test match in England.
Notably, Pant has smacked four test centuries in England including the two in the ongoing Headingley test. Meanwhile, Rahul Dravid with six centuries has most test tons by an Indian batter in England.
Sanjay Manjrekar backs Rishabh Pant to break Rahul Dravid’s test record
While speaking on the show Match Centre Live on JioHotstar, cricketer-turned-commentator Manjrekar backed Pant to surpass Dravid’s record for most test centuries in England in the ongoing five-match test series. Manjrekar noted that Pant has eight more innings left in the series to break Dravid’s record.
“If you look at the numbers — most hundreds by Indians in Tests in England — Rahul Dravid leads with six. And suddenly, you have Pant’s name in that same elite bracket. There’s a nice little twist — there are two Rahul’s in this story. You’ve got KL Rahul, and you’ve got Rishabh Pant,” he said.
“Who knows, by the time this series is done, Pant could match or even surpass Rahul Dravid. There are still four Tests to go in this series — that’s potentially eight innings for Pant. He’s already started in near-perfect fashion,” he further added.
Manjrekar also feels that Pant’s record in England is unbelievable as he is also a wicket-keeper batsman, unlike the other legends part of the leaderboard.
“When you’re talking about batting exploits in England, scoring twin hundreds, the names he’s being compared with are legends like Dilip Vengsarkar, Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, and Sunil Gavaskar. But here’s the remarkable part- he’s also a wicketkeeper. That’s what makes it almost unbelievable,” Manjrekar further added.
Meanwhile, Pant also broke MS Dhoni’s record of most test centuries by a wicket-keeper batsman in tests with his marvellous show in the Headingley test. Pant now has eight test centuries in his kitty, while Dhoni scored six centuries in his test career.
Moreover, the left-handed batsman has also surpassed Dhoni to become the Asian wicket-keeper batsman with the most test runs in SENA (South Africa, England, New Zealand, Australia) countries.
