Rishabh Pant slammed his seventh century in tests.

Rishabh Pant became the third Indian player to smash a century in the ongoing first test between England and India at Headingley in Leeds. The Indian wicket-keeper batter completed his hundred during the first session of day two, with a six against spinner Shoaib Bashir.

India Cricket Team and England Cricket Team are locking horns in the first test of India’s tour of England 2025 at Headingley, Leeds. England skipper Ben Stokes won the toss and opted to field first in the match. However, his decision turned horrible as Indian batters came up with an incredible batting show in the encounter.

On day one, opener Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill slammed centuries to power India to a powerful total. While Jaiswal lost his wicket for 101, Gill slammed a stunning knock of 147 runs before losing his wicket in the first session of day two. Gill and Pant etched a wonderful partnership of 209 runs for the fourth wicket to take India past 400 runs.

Notably, Pant hammered his seventh century in the longest format of the game. With his ton, he broke MS Dhoni’s record of most centuries by an Indian wicket-keeper batter in tests. The former India skipper slammed six centuries in 90 tests during his career. The third Indian wicket-keeper on the list is Wriddhiman Saha with three tons.

Pant has slammed his third test century in England. Earlier, the left-handed batter hammered a 146-run knock at Edgbaston in July 2022 and a 114-run knock at The Oval in September 2018. This was also his fourth century against England as he ended with the innings of 134 runs off 178 balls.

Top six Indian wicket-keeper batters with most test tons:

  1. Rishabh Pant – 7
  2. MS Dhoni – 6
  3. Wriddhiman Saha – 3
  4. Farokh Engineer – 2
  5. Syed KIrmani – 2
  6. Budhi Kunderan – 2

Meanwhile, India have gained a huge dominance against England in the first innings of the Headingley test. The visitors have crossed 450 runs on the scoreboard for the loss of six wickets. England bowlers have largely failed to attack the Indian batting unit. Stokes has picked up three wickets so far, while Brydon Carse, Josh Tongue and Shoaib Bashir have captured one wicket each.
