Breaking News: Rishabh Pant cleared to participate in IPL 2024 as wicket-keeper batter

Rishabh Pant will lead Delhi Capitals (DC) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.
In a major boost for the Delhi Capitals (DC) and Indian cricket team, wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant, who was away from cricketing action for last 14 months, has been cleared to participate in the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024). The wicket-keeper batter received the green light from the National Cricket Academy (NCA) after undergoing rehabilitation for injuries sustained in a car accident in December 2022.
Pant’s return to competitive cricket comes as a huge sigh of relief for DC, who missed his explosive batting and dynamic wicket-keeping skills in the IPL 2023 season. The wicket-keeper batter is a vital cog in the team’s arsenal, and his presence is sure to bolster their chances of lifting the IPL trophy this year.
Rishabh Pant declared fully fit by the NCA ahead of upcoming IPL 2024
Rishabh Pant had injured his knee during a near-fatal car crash in December 2022. Pant underwent a surgery on his injured knee. Pant also suffered multiple other injuries, for which, he was undergoing rehabilitation at the NCA in Bengaluru.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Tuesday, 12th March, 2024, declared Rishabh Pant fit to participate in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024). Quashing the previous speculations of him just playing as a batter, the board also cleared him to participate as a wicket-keeper as well.
“After undergoing an extensive 14-month rehab and recovery process, following a life-threatening road mishap on December 30th, 2022, near Roorkee, Uttarakhand, Rishabh Pant has now been declared fit as a wicket-keeper batter for the upcoming TATA IPL 2024,” the BCCI statement read.
This news also opens the door for Pant’s participation in the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024, which will take place right after the IPL 2024. However, BCCI secretary Jay Shah has previously indicated that Pant’s wicket-keeping duties would be a key factor in his selection.
The upcoming IPL will be a crucial platform for him to regain match fitness and form, not just for the lucrative tournament itself, but also for his potential return to international cricket at the highest level.
