Rishabh Pant averaged 36 in test cricket in 2024.
Rishabh Pant experienced his share of ups and downs in 2024. The dynamic wicketkeeper-batter scored 576 runs in tests during the year, at an average of 36. While he made a strong comeback with a century, he managed just one fifty on the Australia tour.
After missing over a year of cricket due to the injuries he sustained in a car accident in December 2022, Pant returned to test cricket in September 2024 during the two-match series against Bangladesh. He made an instant impact with a brilliant century in the second innings of his comeback test in Chennai.
Pant carried his form into the three-match home test series against New Zealand, finishing as the leading run-scorer of the series with three half-centuries in six innings on challenging pitches.
His form dipped during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 in Australia, where he managed just one half-century, which came in the last test of the series in Sydney.
Will Rishabh Pany play in Delhi’s next Ranji Trophy match?
The DDCA secretary Ashok Sharma confirmed that Pant has made himself available for Delhi’s next Ranji match, which will be against Saurashtra in Rajkot, starting on January 23.
Ashok Sharma told PTI, “Yes, Pant has confirmed his availability for next Ranji game and will join the squad in Rajkot directly.“
The second phase of the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 will start next Thursday. Delhi is currently fourth in Elite Group D.
India’s next red-ball assignment is set to begin in June, with the team touring England for a five-match test series. India will be hoping for Pant to play impactful innings in England that have brought him immense success on overseas tours.
While Pant has confirmed his availability, Virat Kohli’s participation is uncertain. Kohli has been named in Delhi’s list of probables but is yet to speak with the DDCA.
