Rishabh Pant is currently playing for India B in the Duleep Trophy 2024.

Star wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant pinpointed a major difference between current head coach Gautam Gambhir and former coach Rahul Dravid’s coaching style for the Indian cricket team.

Former head coach Rahul Dravid ended his tenure on a memorable note, which saw the Indian cricket team lift the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in June. Notably, Pant was part of the T20 World Cup-winning squad.

After Dravid’s successful tenure, Gambhir took over as the new head coach of the Indian side. His first assignment as head coach with the senior men’s cricket team was during the white-ball tour of Sri Lanka. India whitewashed hosts 3-0 in the T20Is, but suffered a shambolic 2-0 defeat against Lanka in the three ODIs.

Rishabh Pant highlights coaching differences regarding Gambhir and Dravid

Rishabh Pant, who is participating in the ongoing Duleep Trophy 2024 currently, expressed his thoughts on different coaching styles regarding Gambhir and Dravid.

The wicket-keeper batter said that Dravid was a very balanced person, whereas Gambhir is a bit more aggressive and is very ‘one-sided’ about winning the game.

“I feel Rahul bhai was very balanced as a human being and as a coach. For us, there were good moments and bad moments as a cricket team. In the journey of cricket, there are positives and negatives. And it depends on the individuals who are in charge of whether to focus on positives or negatives,” Pant told JioCinema ahead of India A vs India B clash in Duleep Trophy 2024.

“Gauti bhai is more aggressive, he is very one-sided about the fact that we have to win. But you need to find the right balance, That’s the best part about international cricket, you keep on improving and finding the balance,” Pant added.

Gambhir’s biggest assignment as the India head coach will be the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia, which will be played from November 2024 to January 2025. The Indian cricket team will be aiming to win hat-trick of test series in Australia.
