Should India include Rishabh Pant in T20 World Cup 2024 squad? Michael Vaughan has his say

Rishabh Pant has been in great form in the IPL 2024 for Delhi Capitals.

Former England captain Michael Vaughan has shared his thoughts on whether Rishabh Pant should be included in India’s T20 World Cup 2024 squad. This comes after Rishabh Pant’s excellent outings in the ongoing IPL 2024 for Delhi Capitals.

Pant was involved in a serious car accident in December 2022 and had to undergo several surgeries, especially on his right knee. He then endured 14 months on intense recovery and rehab process at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.

Though Delhi Capitals have played four games, they have only won one match. However, Rishabh Pant has shown a great return to form with back-to-back half-centuries in the last two games. In the recent game, made 55 in 25 balls with 5 sixes and 4 fours to his name as DC made 166 in reply to KKR’s 272/7.

Rishabh Pant is also a contender for the wicket-keeper batter position in India’s T20 World Cup 2024 squad. Michael Vaughan said that it is remarkable how well he is playing because of what he went through. He said that his return to form as a batter is very good news for Indian cricket.

“It’s remarkable how well he is playing when you look at what he’s gone through. I don’t think he is running between the wickets as well as he was. But I think he is striking the ball as well as he was, which is a great sign for Delhi, a great sign for Team India. He’s got a great gift, a natural gift to play cricket.. every time sees the gap, he sees where the boundary riders are,” said Vaughan on Cricbuzz.

The first ball off Mitchell Starc, he flicks it, and it goes straight into the stands. There are only a small few in the history of the game who can do that first ball. His team played poorly and he has got to take responsibility for that. But as a batter for Indian cricket, it is great to see him play the way that he is.” Vaughan added.

Pant’s great efforts in the last two games have delighted ex-England captain Michael Vaughan, who believes Pat has punched his ticket to the major tournament, which begins in June.

Vaughan also told BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar to get a plane ticket, boarding pass, and hotels booked for Rishabh Pant for the T20 World Cup 2024.

“I’m sure he is able to play like that since he was about this high. A year and a half out of the game, in our terms, it seems like a long time. But you’re playing the game from three or four years of age, its absolutely not a long time. He knows how to play cricket. We spoke about him getting on that plane to the World Cup. Well if he didn’t have his plane ticket and his boarding pass and his hotels booked, Ajit Agarkar, get them booked,” Vaughan added.

He also shared his response on X, stating: “Is this really a debate .. !!! He is one of the first on the plane & team sheet”
