Rishabh Pant became the fastest batter to reach 100 international sixes in Test cricket.

India’s second Test against Sri Lanka in Colombo has produced yet another moment of concern for the men in the baggy blues. Shubman Gill’s side entered with an advantage after the 165-run victory at Galle, aiming for a complete series sweep.

Rishabh Pant played a crucial role in India’s second innings of the first Test, which helped India post the massive target. He would have played a crucial role in India’s middle order in the second match as well. Pant was named in the Indian XI alongside Dhruv Jurel as a second wicket-keeping option.

During Day 1 of the first innings in Colombo, Pant was struck by the ball while batting during the first innings. The wicket-keeper batter’s availability is crucial for India, as he is an important contributor in the middle order.

During the 58th over of the game, Lahiru Kumara struck Pant on the glove region as the left-hander attempted to pull on a shorter delivery. Pant was seen in immediate discomfort after a nasty blow to his wrist bone. The physios rushed in with the ice pack, the umpires checked on him, and Pant was forced to walk out of the park.

The immediate priority will be monitoring Pant’s condition for India, as they will next travel to play against New Zealand in a two-match Test series away from home. Moreover, Pant will also be crucial during India’s five-match home Test series against Australia, which is a crucial series to restore India’s WTC hopes.

Though an official update on his injury is awaited from the Indian dugout, his return would depend on the team’s medical assessment. If Pant is unable to take the field, Dhruv Jurel will stands in as a deputy behind the stumps.

Jurel rose to immediate glory during the India tour of England when he filled in for Rishabh Pant on multiple occasions after the player had to leave the field due to an injury. Following Pant leaving the ground, Ravindra Jadeja was sent in to partner alongside Devdutt Padikkal, who is playing another gem of an innings in Colombo.
