Rishabh Pant underwent extensive surgeries to correct his knee issues.
Rishabh Pant recalled the arduous and scary moment when he had to fix his dislocated leg when he was trapped in his car post the accident that occurred in December 2022.
Pant was driving from Delhi to Dehradun, when he reportedly lost control of his car and it hit the divider on the highway near Dehradun. His car caught fire and Pant was barely rescued by bystanders before the vehicle burnt down.
He was rushed to a nearby hospital before getting airlifted to Mumbai for further treatment. His condition was so severe that the doctors predicted a 2-3 year-long recovery. But, his willpower and hunger to play for India again let him return in 14 months.
Rishabh Pant first stepped onto the field during a friendly match in Bengaluru and made his competitive cricketing return in the Indian Premier League 2024. He led the Delhi Capitals and was their highest run-getter as well. He batted and kept well and impressed the BCCI selectors.
I twisted it back to its position: Rishabh Pant on fixing his dislocated right leg
He was then named in India’s T20 World Cup 2024 squad and played his first match for India since December 2022, against Ireland in New York and made a brilliant 36* helping India to win the match by 8 wickets.
Speaking with India TV on the famous talk show ‘Aap Ki Adalat,’ Pant recalled his miraculous recovery from multiple injuries.
“So the doctor came to me and said, ‘Rishabh, you need to do three miracles two of which you have already done’. I didn’t have any idea about my life then (he quipped), so I was listening to it thoroughly. He said, ‘Firstly, you are alive after such a gruesome accident’.
My right leg bent opposite by 90 degrees. I don’t how my instinct worked, I asked a guy who was there at the spot to hold it and I twisted it back to its position. So the doctor said, “Secondly, your leg. Had you not done it, it would have led to an amputation,” Rishabh Pant said.
“The third miracle he said that the ACL and PCL won’t require surgery if they heel themselves. None of the ligaments were left in my knees but I assured the doctor that I would go through this as well. Ultimately, it happened. It was no less than a miracle that the ACL and PCL healed itself. As per the doctors, it happens with a few cases in hundreds-thousands. I think the god was kind,” he added.
