Lucknow Super Giants signed Rishabh Pant for INR 27 crore in the IPL 2025 auction.
Rishabh Pant made history when Lucknow Super Giants signed him for a record-breaking price of INR 27 crore in the IPL 2025 auction. He became the costliest player ever in IPL history.
However, he did not enjoy his time with LSG. He was appointed as the captain of the franchise. But their performance under his captaincy did not live up to expectations, and they failed to qualify for the playoffs in the last two seasons.
LSG finished the 2025 season in 7th place and ended up at the bottom in IPL 2026. Under Pant, LSG played 28 matches and won only 10. Hence, after LSG were eliminated in IPL 2026, Pant decided to step down as the franchise’s captain.
This has sparked rumours that Pant might leave LSG next season. If it happens, several franchises will be eager to have Pant on their side, and Delhi Capitals could certainly be one of them.
Delhi Capitals to sign Rishabh Pant for INR 15 crore – Reports

Rishabh Pant, who made history by becoming the most expensive player in an IPL auction, might get a massive pay cut in IPL 2027. Some media reports confirm that Pant is likely to join his former team, Delhi Capitals, in the next season.
Notably, Pant has led DC in 43 matches between 2021 and 2024. Before joining LSG in 2025, he was the captain of DC. According to a Cricbuzz report, DC are in talks with LSG for a potential trade. In this trade, Pant will return to DC, while Kuldeep Yadav will join LSG in exchange.
It will see the homecoming of both players, who play their domestic cricket for Delhi and UP. According to reports, if Pant joins DC, then his salary could drop from ₹27 crore to ₹15 crore, which is significantly lower than what he received in the last two seasons.
The report states, “It is understood that Pant’s revised fee will still be marginally higher than half his current salary, with sources indicating that the keeper-batter has agreed to a fee of around Rs 15 crore. Meanwhile, Kuldeep’s remuneration will remain unchanged at Rs 13.25 crore at Lucknow Super Giants.”
Notably, DC are all set to sign former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh as the new batting coach for the coming season. This will be the first coaching experience for one of India’s greatest match-winners.
