Rishabh Pant cracked 53 runs off 32 balls against Bangladesh in the warm-up match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

Wearing the India blue jersey for the first time since his car accident in December 2022, Rishabh Pant smoked four fours and as many sixes in his entertaining knock of 53 runs off 32 balls against Bangladesh in the warm-up fixture of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Three of those sixes came in an over of veteran Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan.

On Saturday, India took on Bangladesh in their only warm-up game ahead of the main tournament. The game is being played at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, New York. This is the same venue where India will play their first three matches, including against Pakistan, of Group A. There was some early swing movement observed with which Shoriful Islam dismissed opener Sanju Samson.

Rishabh Pant came in to bat at number 3. The left-hander took some balls to settle his eye in first – he was 6 (9) – before tonking Shakib for three sixes in an over.

Not only did Pant have a favourable match-up against Shakib as the left-arm spinner spun the ball into him, but since it was also the last over of the powerplay, the India wicket-keeper felt it was imperative to go after the bowler.

The first six was a proper slog sweep that Pant played after shuffling a bit outside the off-stump. The second was a thrilling reverse-sweep shot. He connected it superbly and the ball flew over the third man boundary for a maximum. Three balls later, Pant once again unleashed a stunning slog-sweep that went for a six over mid-wicket.

From 6 (9) at the start of this over, Pant raced to 27 (14) at the end of it. He would then collect a couple of fours of Soumya Sarkar before hammering Mahmudullah for a maximum. After Pant reached his half-century, he walked back to the dressing room (retired out) to give other batters a chance in this warm-up game.
