Rajasthan Royals defeated Punjab Kings by six wickets in match 40 of the IPL 2026.

Riyan Parag and co. defeated the Punjab Kings in Match 40 of the Indian Premier League 2026 on Tuesday. They became the first team to do so this season. This game took place in Mullanpur, where PBKS posted a massive total of 222/4 in the first innings.

Prabhsimran Singh scored 59 off 44, and Marcus Stoinis scored an unbeaten 62 off 22 balls. Priyansh Arya (29 off 11) and Cooper Connolly (30 off 14) also played good cameos. However, Rajasthan Royals had another quick start with the bat.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi scored an unbeaten 43 off 16, and Yashasvi Jaiswal made 51 off 27 balls. Captain Parag also played a good hand of 29 off 16. Donovan Ferreira (52* off 26) and Shubham Dubey (31* off 12) added 77 runs in 5.2 overs to take RR over the line.

This was a much-needed win for RR as they lost three of their last four games before this match. The middle order clicked for RR today, and captain Parag was visibly happy with the performance. However, the RR captain, Riyan Parag, has found himself in a new controversy.

After the win over PBKS, a video has been circulating. The video captured Riyan Parag vaping inside the dressing room during the match at the New PCA Stadium in Mullanpur. The video was recorded during the 16th over of the second innings.

Notably, smoking is prohibited in the stadium area, including the dressing room. Hence, it came as a shock to many fans when Parag was seen vaping. Under the Prohibition of Electric Cigarettes Act (PECA) of 2019, India banned the use of e-cigarettes/vapes completely.

The ban includes the import, export, any sale or purchase, promotion, or even production of the item. Hence, this incident can lead Parag into big trouble. The stadium premises are a no-smoking zone, and vaping there could be considered a serious offence.

Hence, as per the rule, it may fall under Rule 2.2 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which refers to bringing the game into disrepute.

There is no official wording on this incident to date. The match referee has the right to deduct the match fee, issue an official reprimand, or even suspend Parag from future games.

Although there are no set rules against smoking or vaping in dressing rooms, the video has raised questions about mismanagement. Hence, there is a chance that the BCCI might ask the player and the management for an explanation.
