Rajasthan Royals (RR) finished third in the IPL 2026 under the captaincy of Riyan Parag.

Riyan Parag was handed over the captaincy of Rajasthan Royals for the first few games in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 in the absence of then-captain Sanju Samson.

Later, he was appointed as the full-time captain in 2026, after Sanju Samson‘s exit. Under his captaincy, RR finished third in the IPL 2026, after losing to Gujarat Titans. And now, Parag is all set to remain as RR captain in the upcoming season of the league.

Rahul Rawat, a senior Indian sports journalist, has broken the headlines on the RR captaincy. One of his reports confirms that RR are not in the mood to make any change to the captaincy. Hence, Parag is likely to lead the team in the IPL 2027.

Notably, after the change in the ownership, some rumors highlighted that there can be a possible switch in the captaincy. However, the report suggests that the franchise will back Parag to lead the team.

Riyan Parag led RR to the playoffs in his first season as a full-time captain. However, under his captaincy, RR have an underwhelming record. He has led RR in 22 games and won ten matches at a win percentage of 45.45.

After Samson’s exit, RR had an option of Yashasvi Jaiswal, but they went with Parag. In fact, Jaiswal also led RR in a couple of games in the IPL 2026 in the absence of the captain. The left-hander has established himself as a key batter for India at the international level.

However, the franchise is keen to continue with Parag. RR invested INR 14 crore to retain him ahead of the previous cycle. He is still among the key players for the franchise, along with Jaiswal and Dhruv Jurel, who are other captaincy options available in the team.

Meanwhile, some reports indicated that Jaiswal could leave the franchise and look for other options. The speculations are that Jaiswal isn’t happy with Parag being the captain, and he wants to leave the franchise.

What position did Rajasthan Royals (RR) finish in the IPL 2026?
