[Watch] Riyan Parag stops Avishka Fernando from scoring 100 to pick his maiden ODI wicket

Riyan Parag replaced Arshdeep Singh in India’s XI for the 3rd SL vs IND ODI on August 7.

In what is just his second tour with the national team, Riyan Parag has raised his stocks as an all-rounder. After picking three wickets in the first T20I against Sri Lanka, he was among the wickets on his ODI debut as well against the same opposition.

Parag made his ODI debut on Wednesday, August 7, in Colombo in the 3rd SL vs IND ODI, which is a must-win encounter for Team India as they look to avoid a series loss.

The Assam cricketer received his maiden ODI cap from his idol Virat Kohli. He replaced pacer Arshdeep Singh in the playing XI.

Riyan Parag dismisses Avishka Fernando for 96, then removes SL captain Charith Asalanka

In his third over, Parag got rid of the well-set Avishka Fernando, who was batting on 96. The Sri Lanka opener was proving tough to be toppled by the Indian bowlers as he cracked nine fours and two sixes in his impressive knock.

But Parag, who bowls a mix of off-spin and leg-spin, managed to get the better of Fernando and claimed his maiden ODI scalp.

It was leg-break from Parag in the line of the stumps and on full length. Fernando played a defensive stroke. The ball went on straight after pitching. It beat the batter’s inside edge and hit his front pad. The umpire raised his finger. Parag was pumped up by his maiden ODI wicket, and that showed in his celebration.

Fernando opted against the review and walked off after scoring 96 runs.

After dismissing Fernando, Parag also claimed the wicket of Sri Lanka captain Charith Asalanka, who scored 10 runs. Similar to Fernando, Asalanka was dismissed lbw by Parag.
