Rohit Sharma is just behind Babar Azam in the latest ICC ODI men’s batting rankings.
India test and ODI captain Rohit Sharma jumped to second position in the latest ICC men’s ODI batting rankings revealed on August 14. Although India suffered a 0-2 defeat in the three-match ODI series, the veteran Indian opener had an outstanding ODI series against Sri Lanka.
The 37-year-old Rohit was the highest run-scorer of the ODI series between the two nations. Rohit scored 157 runs at an average of 52.33, including two half-centuries.
It is to be noted that the likes of Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, and Shreyas Iyer were left clueless against Sri Lanka’s spin attack, but Rohit showed his class on a tricky Colombo pitch, which offered assistance to spin bowlers.
Rohit Sharma closes in on Babar Azam’s No.1 ODI ranking
Rohit Sharma, who is now at the second place and is just behind Pakistan batter Babar Azam, who continues to stay on top in the latest ICC rankings for batters in ODIs. Currently, Rohit has 765 points, whereas Babar Azam is at first with 824 points.
Behind Rohit is India’s vice-captain Shubman Gill, who slipped down to third with 763 points, whereas veteran batter Virat Kohli is placed fourth with 765 points.
Both Kohli and Shubman had a poor run with the bat as they failed to register even a single fifty in the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka in Colombo.

Kuldeep Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah remain India’s top-ranked bowlers in ODI rankings
India wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav remains the top-ranked ODI bowler for Men in Blue. He is ranked fourth, whereas speedster Jasprit Bumrah, who was rested for the Sri Lanka series, held his No. 8 spot.
South Africa spinner Keshav Maharaj is at the top with 716 points. Australian bowlers Josh Hazlewood and Adam Zampa are ranked second and third with 688 and 686 points.
