Only Virat Kohli has scored more T20I runs than Rohit Sharma.

India captain Rohit Sharma entered an elite list of batters to amass over 4000 T20I runs. He became the second Indian after Virat Kohli, and the third batter overall, with Babar Azam being the other one, to get to 4000 T20I runs.

Rohit achieved this feat during his knock of 52* against Ireland in India’s opening match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 on Wednesday in New York. On a really challenging surface, Rohit scored 52 runs in 37 balls with the help of four fours and three sixes.

The Indian captain, however, couldn’t carry on his innings and had to retire hurt after reaching his half-century because of being hit on his elbow from a bumper by Josh Little. Nonetheless, his half-century ensured India were within touching distance of the target of 97 runs when he retired out.

Rohit Sharma only 12 runs behind Virat Kohli in T20Is, goes past Babar Azam

Rohit Sharma scored 52 runs against Ireland, while in the same match, Kohli was dismissed for only 1 run. He tried to attack Mark Adair but top-edged his shot straight to deep thirdman.

After these knocks, Kohli has 4038 runs in T20Is and Rohit has 4026. During his innings, Sharma went past Pakistan captain Babar Azam, who has scored 4023 runs in the shortest international format. They are the only three batters who have recorded more than 4000 T20I runs. All three are competing in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies and USA.
