Rohit Sharma got angry at Rishabh Pant for not putting extra effort to take Mitchell Marsh’s catch.

India captain Rohit Sharma expressed his anger at wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant for not making a strong effort to take the catch of Australia skipper Mitchell Marsh during their Super 8 encounter.

India met the Aussies on June 24 for a crucial Super 8 encounter in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium, Gros Islet, St Lucia.

After being asked to bat first, India posted a sizeable total of 205 runs on the board, courtesy of Rohit Sharma’s blistering knock of 92 (41), which included seven fours and eight sixes.

India got off to a good start with the ball, too, as Arshdeep Singh dismissed David Warner in the first over. India could have got rid of the Australian skipper, Mitchell Marsh, as well in the second over, bowled by Jasprit Bumrah, if not the lazy attempt from Pant.

To a short ball from Bumrah, Marsh, still without having scored a run, went for the pull shot but was not in the right position for it. He gloved the ball to the left of Pant. Until the time the ball was in the air, everyone held their breath but the Indians were let down by a lethargic effort from the wicket-keeper. Pant chased after the airborne ball but didn’t put in a dive as the ball bounced in front of him.

Seeing this lack of effort from Pant, Rohit got angry and hurled an abuse towards the wicket-keeper. Bumrah also had his hands in front of him, gesturing his shock at the wicket-keeper not putting in a dive to attempt the catch.
