Top 3 biggest achievements of Rohit Sharma in international cricket

Rohit Sharma is the only batsman to hit 3 double centuries in ODI cricket.
Rohit Sharma is among the best batsmen to ever play for Indian Cricket Team. The right-handed batsman has rocked in every role and each format he has played for the country. Sharma has achieved numerous achievements in international cricket. However, some prominent ones are related to his achievements as an Indian opener and Indian captain.
The Mumbai cricketer made his international debut long back in June 2007 during an ODI game against Ireland. Sharma, who started out as a middle-order batsman, did not get an opportunity to bat in the match. However, he achieved a lot of success over the years and developed into one of the best openers for India across all three formats.
Similarly, Sharma’s contribution to the Indian Cricket Team as a captain is commendable. Indian cricket fans lost all hope of an ICC trophy after the Men in Blue lost the final in ICC ODI World Cup 2023 at home. However, skipper Sharma bounced back to grab two back-to-back ICC titles for the national side under his captaincy within a year.
In this listicle, we glance at Sharma’s top three biggest achievements in international cricket.
Here are Rohit Sharma’s top three biggest achievements in international cricket
1. 3 ODI double centuries
Sharma’s biggest achievement in international cricket as a batsman is definitely hitting double centuries in ODIs. While many legendary batters struggled to reach the 200-run mark in ODIs in their entire career, Sharma has done it thrice. He slammed his first double ton in ODIs in 2013 during a clash against Australia (209).
He replicated the record next year with a 264-run knock against Sri Lanka. This still serves as the highest ever individual score in 50-over cricket. Three years later in 2017, Sharma hammered his third double century. The opening batsman slammed an unbeaten double ton (208*) against Sri Lanka.
2. T20 World Cup title win as captain

MS Dhoni was the first Indian captain to win T20 World Cup for India in the inaugural edition of the tournament in 2007. However, the Men in Blue failed to win the trophy again under MS Dhoni and then his successor Virat Kohli for more than 15 years. India either struggled to win knockout games or faced early exits in their quest for the second T20 World Cup title.
However, Sharma came to the rescue and helped the Men in Blue eventually bag the ICC T20 World Cup title in 2024. The Rohit Sharma-led side defeated South Africa in the final in West Indies to grab an ICC trophy after more than a decade.
3. ICC Champions Trophy title win as captain

Interestingly, Sharma did not stop after leading Indian Cricket Team to their second T20 World Cup title. He once again led the Indian Cricket Team successfully in ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The deadly Indian team dismantled New Zealand in the final to clinch another premium ICC trophy in UAE.
Notably, India remained unbeaten throughout the tournament and defeated the Kiwis with comfort in the final by four wickets. Sharma won Player of the Match (POTM) award in the final for his spectacular knock of 76 runs. This was India’s third ICC Champions Trophy title after 2002 and 2013.
