Rohit Sharma will lead India in the ODI series against Australia.
Indian ODI skipper Rohit Sharma has started his preparations for the Australia tour, possibly putting an end to all the rumours related to his retirement. The Indian side will be playing three ODIs and five T20Is down under in October-November later this year.
Rohit Sharma, who has retired from the T20Is and tests, will be leading India in the ODI series against Australia. The premier batter recently was at the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) Centre of Excellence for the fitness tests and reportedly passed all of them with good scores.
A few days after he cleared the fitness tests, Rohit was back in the nets and looked in great touch. The Indian ODI skipper posted a video of himself training in Mumbai on his Instagram account. In the clip, he was vocal enough to say, “I’m here again. It feels really good”.
The clip starts with a focus on Rohit’s Indian team helmet. After that, the Indian skipper was seen checking his stroke play. He seemed to be in good touch as he timed the ball to perfection and played some glorious shots, the maximum of which came from the middle.

Of late, there have been a lot of reports about Rohit Sharma’s retirement. It was learned that the senior batter isn’t in the scheme of things for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2027, for which he himself has expressed his desire to be part of and win it.
Some reports even claimed that the ODI series against Australia will be last for Rohit Sharma and that the BCCI will also be giving the leadership to Shubman Gill or Shreyas Iyer in the format. The board wants a young captain to lead the side in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2027.
Rohit Sharma’s last outing for India was in the final of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. He played a magical innings of 76 runs and won the Player of the Match award to help his team win the tournament. Since, Indian Premier League (IPL), he hasn’t played competitive cricket. The senior batter mustered 418 runs in the league.
