Former Indian Cricket Team captain Rohit Sharma is currently active in only one format. The right-handed batsman retired from T20I cricket in June 2024 and pulled the curtains down on his Test career in May 2025. He now plays only in the 50-over format and is aiming to play in the 2027 ICC ODI World Cup.
Rohit Sharma is one of the few players who have captained India across all three formats simultaneously. His record as captain has also been outstanding. He captained the team in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023 final against Australia, in which India finished as runners-up.
He led the team to their biggest triumph in T20I cricket by winning the T20 World Cup 2024. Indian Team fulfilled their hunger to win the T20 World Cup after a long gap of 17 years.
Earlier, they won the maiden edition of the tournament in 2007 under MS Dhoni. Moreover, they also won an ICC title after 11 years, defeating South Africa in the final.
In the 50-over format, the Rohit Sharma-led Indian Team finished as runners-up in the ODI World Cup 2023. However, they made a comeback by defeating New Zealand in the final to win the 2025 Champions Trophy. Thus, Rohit led the team to two consecutive ICC titles in less than a year.
Rohit Sharma felicitated with the Padma Shri by President of India
Despite relinquishing captaincy in all three formats, Rohit has been felicitated by the BCCI, Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), and other State Cricket Associations on numerous occasions over the last two years. Now, he has bagged another prestigious award in his kitty.
The 38-year-old was conferred the Padma Shri by the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, in New Delhi on June 23. The Padma Shri is one of the most prestigious civilian honours conferred by the government.
Rohit was present at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi on Tuesday along with his wife, Ritika Sajdeh, to receive the award. Ritika watched with pride as Rohit walked onto the stage to receive the honour from President Murmu.
