Rohit Sharma becomes first-ever batsman to hit 600 sixes in international cricket

Rohit Sharma completed the milestone in T20 World Cup 2024 match between India and Ireland.

Rohit Sharma, the India captain, achieved a huge milestone as he became the first batter to hit 600 sixes in international cricket. He achieved the feat in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024 where India began their journey against Ireland on June 5, 2024.

The 37-year-old right-handed batter is the only active member of India’s 2007 T20 World Cup-winning squad.

Rohit, who made his international debut for India in an ODI against Ireland in June 2007, has hit 193 sixes in 151 T20Is, the highest of any player. If he hits seven sixes in the T20 World Cup 2024, he will be the first batsman to reach a double century in the game’s shortest format. Aside from T20Is, Rohit has struck 84 sixes in 59 tests and 323 maximums in 262 ODIs for India.

Before that he came into the Ireland match needing 3 sixes to complete 600 sixes in international cricket.

He did well to win the toss and chose to bowl first on a bowler-friendly pitch. Ireland was bowled out for 96, with Gareth Delaney hitting 26 runs. Arshdeep Singh finished with 2/35 in 4 overs, Mohammed Siraj with 1/13 in 3 overs, Jasprit Bumrah with 2/6 in 3 overs, and Hardik Pandya with 3/27.

In reply, India lost Virat Kohli early for 1 run, but Rohit Sharma, along with Rishabh Pant didn’t let Ireland get on the top. He made a brilliant 52 in 37 balls with 4 fours and three sixes to his name. He retired out due to a shoulder injury, as he had been hit on the shoulder by a bouncer.

But in the process, he hit three sixes and with that became the first batter in international cricket to hit 600 sixes. Before this game, he had 597 sixes in 472 matches including tests, ODIs, and T20Is.
