Team India won the 1st test by an Innings and 141 after Rohit Sharma made a surprise declaration.

Team India registered a thumping win in the first test against the West Indies in Dominica. They thrashed the hosts within three days and won the game by an innings and 141 runs. It was Ravichandran Ashwin again in the second innings, who picked up yet another five-wicket haul to help India dismiss the hosts for just 130 runs. However, the surprise came when Rohit Sharma declared India's first innings.

India posted 421/5 in their first innings in 152.2 overs when Rohit signaled the declaration. It was a surprise declaration, as not many expected it and were looking to give more chances to the debutant, Ishan Kishan. But the bowlers proved the decision right, and the spinners were on the job once again, dismissing the West Indies in just 50.3 overs.

Rohit Sharma opens up on his on-field action before declaration

Not just Ravi Ashwin's outstanding bowling performance, but one another thing caught the attention of the fans. It was the strange gesture made by Rohit Sharma at the time of declaration when debutant Ishan Kishan opened his account. Notably, Ishan took 20 balls to score his first test run. Many claimed that Rohit was unhappy with Ishan taking so many deliveries to score a run.

The left-hander, who is known as a dasher in the white-ball format, took so many deliveries that it delayed India's plan of declaring the Innings. In the post-match presentation, the Indian captain explained his actions and said that he indicated to the batter about the declaration an over before. Rohit said, "I was just letting them know we have an over or so before declaring. I wanted Ishan to get of the mark, wanted to tell him to get his personal mark and then we had to declare. I could see that he was always eager to bat the whole day, it could be frustrating for them."

The left-hander spotted Rohit's gesture and took a run on the very next ball, and the Indian captain declared the innings. Speaking of the game, Ashwin registered his best bowling figures in an away game and ended up with 7/71. With this win, India have taken an unassailable 1-0 lead in the series.
