India are locking horns with England in a three-match ODI series. The visitors won by six wickets in the 1st ODI at Edgbaston on July 14, earning a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.
The Men in Blue chased down a 259-run target by six wickets like a walk in the park with half-centuries by Shubman Gill, Axar Patel, and Washington Sundar.
Veteran Indian batter Rohit Sharma could not make a mark with his performance in the clash. The right-handed batsman got out for just 11 runs off 21 deliveries with one four. He also failed to impress with his performance in the 2nd game in Cardiff, scoring 26 runs off 47 deliveries with 1 four and 1 six.
Rohit, who is only active in the 50-over format, has expressed his desire to play the ICC Cricket World Cup 2027 in South Africa, Namibia, and Zimbabwe next year. However, since the beginning of 2026, he has failed to make any significant impact with his performances.
Earlier in January, in the three ODI games against New Zealand, Rohit got out cheaply for 26, 24, and 11. In June, the 39-year-old came up with a better show in the Afghanistan series, scoring 16, 48, and 79 across three matches.
In the eight ODI matches played so far this year, the Indian opener has scored 241 runs at a poor average of 30.12, with just one half-century.
The former Indian captain is known for comebacks and will be looking for one in the 3rd ODI against England at Lord’s on July 19. However, according to a report by The Indian Express, it can be Rohit’s last game in international cricket.
