If India qualify, Rohit Sharma will captain India in ICC WTC final as well.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah confirmed on July 7, 2024, that veteran cricketer Rohit Sharma will be leading the Indian side in the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy and remainder of the ICC World Test Championship 2023-25 cycle.

Under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, the Indian side lifted the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 by defeating South Africa in the final by seven runs in Barbados on June 29.

Rohit became the second Indian skipper after legendary MS Dhoni to win the T20 World Cup trophy. The Rohit-led India also ended the 11-year-long ICC title. The Men in Blue also became the first side in the world to remain unbeaten and win the ICC T20 championship.

Under Rohit, the men have played three ICC finals in the last 12 months. India played the WTC final and ODI World Cup final in 2023 and then the T20 World Cup 2024 final. Sadly, the Men in Blue lost both WTC final and the ODI World Cup final last year against Australia.

Under Rohit Sharma, we will win the WTC final and the Champions Trophy: Jay Shah

A few days ago, BCCI secretary Jay Shah made his intentions clear: Team India’s next goal will be to win the upcoming two ICC tournaments in 2025. Shah also added that all the senior players will be part of the upcoming tournaments.

On July 7, BCCI Secretary Shah congratulated Team India for lifting the T20 World Cup 2024 trophy. Shah dedicated this win to head coach Rahul Dravid, skipper Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja.

The legendary trio of Jadeja, Kohli, and Rohit retired from T20I cricket following the T20 World Cup, whereas Dravid’s tenure as the head coach of the Indian side ended on June 29.

“I congratulate the Indian team for the win in T20 World Cup 2024. I dedicate this win to head coach Rahul Dravid, captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja,” BCCI secretary Jay Shah said.

Jay Shah also confirmed that Rohit will captain the national side in the upcoming Champions Trophy and World Test Championship final (Subject to India’s qualification) in 2025.

Incidentally, the trio of Kohli, Jadeja and Rohit retired from T20Is after the World Cup win. I am confident that under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, we will win the WTC Final and the Champions Trophy,” Shah added.
