It was a dream come true moment for Rohit Sharma and his team when they led the nation to the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 title. India defeated South Africa in the final in Barbados to lift their second T20 World Cup. The moment will be remembered as one of the most iconic moments in Indian cricket history, and the whole world saw how the Indian fans welcomed their World Cup heroes.

It was unbelievable scenes at Marine Drive in Mumbai where fans gathered in large numbers to be part of the victory parade, and it was a packed house at the Wankhede Stadium where the team was felicitated. Fans also caught an emotional moment between Rohit Sharma and his mother, who skipped a doctor’s appointment to be part of the celebration event at the Wankhede Stadium.

Rohit Sharma’s family, along with former MCA President PV Shetty and residents of Sportsline Society, where Rohit spent his initial cricketing days, were all present at the Wankhede Stadium on Thursday. When the Indian captain went to the president’s box to meet his mother, Poornima, who skipped her doctor’s appointment to come to watch thousands of fans chant Rohit’s name, she couldn’t control her emotions and hugged and kissed her son.

In an interview with the Indian Express, she also revealed that the 37-year-old already planned to quit T20Is, irrespective of the result at the T20 World Cup 2024. She said, “I have never thought I would see this day. Before going to the World Cup, he had come to meet us and said that he wanted to quit T20Is after this. I just said try to win. I was not feeling well today and had a doctor’s appointment, but I still came as I wanted to see this day.“

Rohit’s brother, Vishal, was also present at the Wankhede stadium. He said, “We came here as sir (PV Shetty) said we all should go. He took all of us. I was young when I saw Rohit winning the 2007 (ICC World T20) title but this one is special. The huge cheer he got shows how much Mumbai loves him.” Rohit Sharma, along with Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja, have quit T20Is, and these three will be playing ODIs and tests for India.
