Rohit Sharma attained the No. 1 position in men’s ICC ODI rankings for the first time.
Indian Cricket Team opener Rohit Sharma has moved to the top spot in the latest International Cricket Council (ICC) ODI rankings for batsmen in men’s cricket. The right-handed batsman dethroned his teammate and Indian captain Shubman Gill from the No.1 spot following his magnificent performance in the recently-concluded ODI series against Australia.
Rohit, who made a comeback to the national team after a seven-month gap in the ODI leg of the India’s tour of Australia 2025, gave a brilliant show in the last two games. After getting out cheaply for eight runs in the first ODI in Perth, he bounced back with a half-century and an unbeaten century in the next two games in Adelaide and Sydney respectively.
With his unbeaten 121 runs in the third ODI, Rohit drove India to victory in the 237-run chase by nine wickets as the Men in Blue avoided a whitewash in the three-match series. He was adjudged Player of the Match in Sydney ODI as well as Player of the Series after finishing as the leading run-scorer with 202 runs at an average of 101.0.
Shubman Gill moves to third spot in men’s ICC ODI batting rankings

With 781 rating points, Rohit has jumped two places to steal the top spot in men’s ICC ODI batting rankings, attaining the top spot for the first time in his career. Gill has dropped down two places and now captures the third spot with 745 rating points. Afghanistan batter Ibrahim Zadran retained his second spot with 764 rating points.
Moreover, Virat Kohli has dropped to the sixth spot in the latest rankings with 725 rating points. The right-handed batsman was dismissed for two consecutive ducks in the first two ODI games against Australia, before making a spectacular comeback with his unbeaten 74 runs in the third ODI. Etching a 168-run stand with Rohit for the second wicket, Kohli played a crucial role in India’s dominant victory during the encounter.

Shreyas Iyer has gained one rank and takes the ninth spot in the latest rankings. Iyer hammered a half-century in the second ODI in Adelaide before sustaining a serious injury during the third ODI while fielding. Ahead of the Australia ODI tour, he was named as vice-captain of the team. Notably, Rohit, Gill, Kohli, and Iyer are the only four Indian batters among the top ten spots. The next Indian batter is KL Rahul at the 14th spot with 631 rating points.
Meanwhile, Gill replaced Rohit as India’s ODI captain ahead of the Australia series. While Rohit has returned to India after the conclusion of the ODI series, Gill is part of the five-match T20I series, where he serves as deputy to captain Suryakumar Yadav.
