India scripted history when they defeated New Zealand by four wickets in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 final. With this victory, they became the most successful team in the tournament’s history, securing their third title.

It was a memorable tournament for Indian captain Rohit Sharma. The Indian skipper made bold decisions in squad selection, including picking five spinners and opting for KL Rahul over Rishabh Pant in the playing XI. He also stepped up in the final with a crucial 76-run knock, leading the Men in Blue to victory.

While he had already clarified in the post-match press conference that he has no plans to retire from ODIs yet, he has now shared his thoughts on playing until the ICC Cricket World Cup 2027.

Speaking to the ICC after India’s historic ICC Champions Trophy triumph, Rohit emphasized that he is currently playing well and enjoying the game but can’t comment on 2027 as it is too far ahead.

Rohit said, “Right now, I’m playing really, really well, and I’m enjoying everything I’m doing with this team, and the team is enjoying my company as well, which is nice.

I can’t really say 2027, because it’s too far, but I’m keeping all my options open.

He stressed that he would continue playing as long as he enjoys the game.

He added, “As long as I’m enjoying the sport, I’m enjoying playing the game, doing what I’m doing for this team, I will continue to play.

It is something that really makes me happy. There are a lot of things involved, there’s so much pride, and the way this team is playing, I don’t want to leave this team. he way we are playing at this point in time, there is so much joy, so much fun to play with all of them.
